First day of Graduate School experienced...

So, I just got home from my first class as a grad student! Thanks to my mom and my trip the day before to find the school (and the handy dandy gps) it was really easy to find tonight and I was comfortable getting there! I was concerned about traffic, but left plenty early to make sure and miss any delaying of getting to school on time. My classroom was really easy to find and I was by far the youngest person in the room! There were a couple of people just a year older than me, but for the most part they were 10 to 20 years my senior (hope it doesn't take me that long to finish)! The professor was really nice, she has a great sense of humor, incorporates a lot of her own life experiences into the discussion and makes it very interesting. I am actually really anxious to go buy my book and get reading. Dr. Atkins, my professor, really got me thinking in a way that I don't know why I had never really thought before. I have always thought about the people who were victimized or hurt that I would be able to help counsel but for some reason it never occured to me that I might be counseling the person who did the abusing or caused the trauma. It was really an eye opening experience to hear that and it got me really excited! I'm already looking forward to the next class. All of my fears and nightmares of grad school being too hard were pretty much relieved after this...hopefully tomorrow's class goes as well!

  1. I am glad it went so well for you. I would only be able to come home the route we took yesterday, stopping at all the craft stores. Amazing we only thought about the abused needing counseling. I will be anxious to learn more from you.
